Hogsmeade
All 3rd year students and above at Hogwarts are allowed to the only 100% wizarding village, Hogsmeade with their parent or guardians permission. You can get in without permission though by using one of two tunnels. The first starts at the Whomping Willow and finishes up at the Shrieking Shack. The second starts at a statue of an one-eyed witch and ends up at the cellar of Honeydukes. The places to visit at Hogsmeade are:
The 3 Broomsticks -
Madam Rosmerta runs the Three Broomsticks. It's an inn that was the headquarters of a goblin rebellion in 1612. Here you can buy many unusual drinks such as Butterbeer or Mulled Mead. It's a warm, friendly and inviting place with a good atmosphere that hits you as soon as you enter.
The Hogs Head -
The Hogs Head, situated just outside of Hogsmeade, has a more formidable and less welcoming atmosphere. All sorts of people show up here and it's not unusual for you not to be able to see the faces of the patrons of the pub. It consists of one dark and dingy room. It is run by Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus' younger brother, which explains why Dumbledore used to sometimes frequent the pub.
Dervish and Banges -
Dervish and Banges is the wizard equipment and instrument shop. Here you can get any faulty objects fixed and buy things such as a Pocket Sneakoscope, which lights up if there's someone untrustworthy around. You can also buy quills and parchment here.
Gladrags Wizardwear -
If you want your party robes, then this is the shop to get it from. Buy from here and you'll soon be one of the most fashionable wizard or witches around.
Honeydukes -
Honeydukes, owned by Ambrosius Flume, is one of the best sweet shops in the wizarding world. They sell pepper imps (they smoke at the mouth), sugar Quills (eat them in class), sherbet balls (they make you levitate), Ice Mice (your teeth chatter and squeak to you), exploding bonbons and many more. They also sell the regular wizard sweets such as Every Flavour Beans and Chocolate Frogs.
The Post Office -
At the post office you can hire an owl to deliver some post for you anywhere in the wizard or Muggle world.
Shrieking Shack -
The Shrieking Shack is supposed to be the most haunted place in Britain. The rumours are that there are ghosts there so violent and fierce that you better go nowhere near the place. The truth is though that the house was deserted until the inhabitants of Hogsmeade heard terrible noises coming from there and everybody avoids it now. The terrible noises though were not created by ghosts but by Professor Lupin (see
Prisoner of Azkaban for full details).Zonkos -
Zonkos is a joke shop that is popular with the students at Hogwarts, full of jokes and tricks. Buy items such as Dungbombs, Hiccough sweets and nose-biting teacups. It is now closed with the return of Voldemort.
Madam Puddifoot's -
A rather romantic small teashop decorated with frills and bows. An excellent place for couples to get coffees and to get to know each other better.
Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop –
You can purchase a variety of quills here.
